Nine Suspects in Rwenzori Attacks Seek Pardon
Nine individuals suspected of orchestrating the November 2025 coordinated attacks on security installations in the Rwenzori sub-region have come forward seeking government pardon, as authorities and religious leaders intensify peace-building campaigns to restore stability and prevent further violence.

Nine people believed to have been involved in the November 2025 attacks on security installations in parts of Kasese and neighboring districts have reportedly approached the government seeking pardon, signaling a potential turning point in reconciliation efforts.

The attacks, which involved armed groups targeting multiple security posts simultaneously, left several people dead and prompted heightened security operations across the Rwenzori sub-region.

While some suspects were arrested, others reportedly fled into hiding.

Government and religious leaders have since stepped up peace campaigns, encouraging the remaining suspects to abandon rebellion and return to lawful life.

The State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabyanga, urged those still at large to surrender voluntarily, noting that some individuals have already expressed willingness to seek forgiveness.

“We continue to call upon those who were involved in the attacks to voluntarily surrender to government and seek forgiveness. Some of them have already shown willingness to come out, and this is a good step toward restoring peace in our region,” Kabyanga said.

He warned that those who ignore the call risk arrest as security operations continue to safeguard stability.

Religious leaders have reinforced the message of reconciliation. Bishop Paul Mumbere of the Rwenzori Field encouraged Christians to repent and reject violence, stressing that peace and unity are essential for community development.

“Peace and unity are the foundations of development, and we must all work together to protect the harmony of our communities,” Bishop Mumbere said.

Officials say the ongoing dialogue and community engagement are intended to prevent the Rwenzori sub-region from relapsing into cycles of violence that have historically disrupted livelihoods and security.

Authorities remain optimistic that the combination of voluntary surrender, community reconciliation, and continued peace-building efforts could help rebuild trust and promote lasting stability in the region.
